Midnight

Updated: Jan 5

Midnight

My dress is laying on my bed,

 heels on the shelf, waiting—

everything new, everything ready.

My hair is perfectly coiffed,

nails shiny red.

To others, tonight means

new beginnings,

resolutions,

 a first kiss,

hope.

It means none of those things to me.

A time for looking forward,

and all I feel is dread.

Instead—

a final goodbye

to ten years of us,

promises never kept,

hope that just maybe

kismet might be true.

Tonight,

hello to my first year

without you.

No lies,

no deceit,

no hiding in shadows.

I should be happy.

Yet—

My nose misses your scent.

My ears miss the sound of your voice.

My mouth misses your kisses.

My body craves your arms.

My heart—

silently breaking,

still wanting so much more.

My eyes still searching for you.

My brain?

Pure logic.

Knowing the truth,

the deception,

everything lies.

Tonight

I'll wear the dress,

stand tall on heels,

release my past,

shed final tears over you.

Maybe a kiss from someone new—

one who treats me right,

one who could replace you.

Goodbye is at midnight.

Without you.
